Dominican and Caribbean Culture

Using Hispaniola as a case study, students will be given a historical and cultural overview of the Caribbean Area. Through interactive field trips and hands-on research IERC students will explore the social aspects, present economic situations, political movements and trends and mixture of cultures, influences, and history of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Through class discussions, reaction essays, and projects, students will be able to formulate and voice their opinions, responses, and ideas to the information. This open forum will help develop the students’ critical thinking and problem solving skills as well as help students compare and contrast this culture with their own.
