Academic Programs

Students studying abroad with IERC can choose one of two academic program tracts. Both tracts offer language study plus immersion in real world situations and opportunities for students to enhance their cultural awareness.

Spanish as a Second Language

IERC students will take a language placement test during orientation week in Santo Domingo. This will help our professors accurately place students in the correct level Spanish language course.

• Spanish is the 4th most spoken language in the world, with over 400 million people speaking it all over the globe.

• The United States has the fifth largest population of Spanish speakers in the world.

• About half of all the people in the western hemisphere speak Spanish as their primary language.
